Music Together® began as an educational project of the Center for Music and Young Children in 1987. In the 23 years that have followed those first classes, Music Together has grown to a nationally taught, nationally acclaimed program that has reached thousands of families in 36 states and several foreign countries. Pre-schools and Day-care centers everywhere have integrated Music Together songs and activities into their programs.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality music and movement experiences to as many young children as possible, involving their parents and other adult caregivers, including early childhood professionals.
BASIC MUSIC TOGETHER PHILOSOPHY
1. All children are musical.
2. Therefore, all children can achieve basic music competence. CMYC defines basic music competence as audiation and expression of meter by rhythmically accurate movement and tonality by in-tune singing.
3. The participation and modeling of parents and caregivers, regardless of their musical ability, is essential to a child’s musical growth.
4. This growth is best achieved in a playful, developmentally appropriate, non-performance-oriented learning environment which is musically rich yet immediately accessible to the child’s—and the adult’s!—participation.
You may notice the following when you observe class: • Mixed ages • Parent education “moments” during class • Variety of tonalities and meters • Multi-modal learning experiences • Modeling of and opportunity for creativity and improvisation • Each child participating at his/her own level of development • Each child learning in his or her own style • Facilitation of each adult’s music and movement experience
Our goal is to nurture your child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement. We sing, dance, chant and play instruments in an informal setting that allows children to develop at their own pace. We also educate parents/caregivers, who acting as models in the class, learn how to encourage their child’s musical growth. This is a non-performance orientated program which emphasizes the learning process, rather than the product. Music Together Of Fairfield County, Inc.
| Music Together of Fairfield County (MTFC) was founded in April 1994 by Jackie Jacobs. Jackie was the first to bring Music Together to Connecticut when she moved here with her family from Brooklyn, where she taught classes for Music Together of Brooklyn. Sixteen years later, Music Together of Fairfield County currently serves approximately 1000 families in Fairfield, Westport, Wilton, Ridgefield, New Canaan, Rowayton, Stamford, Greenwich, Georgetown/West Redding, and Kent, Connecticut. Under Jackie's direction, Music Together of Fairfield County has been a partner in the Total Learning Initiative, a birth to 9 year old program aimed at helping reduce the achievement gap in education. She has participated in the development of this initiative, bringing Music Together to low income children in the city of Bridgeport. Her vision is to provide each family with the highest quality Music Together experience possible. She seeks to enrich the lives of every parent and child in the program with the "Joy of Family Music." | |
